Growing Up Healthy:

The Appropriate Age to Introduce Each Dimension of Health to Your Child

Health is more than just the absence of disease or illness. It is a dynamic and evolving term that refers to the ability to adapt to changes, resist disease, interact with environmental factors and maintain personal wellbeing. Although different with each source, the different dimensions of health and wellness include physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, and intellectual health. Other factors sometimes included are occupational, financial, and environmental health. While all dimensions are equally as important in ensuring overall health, the focus of this website will be on physical, mental, and social health. Within these three categories, aspects of all the dimensions are present in some way.

 

The purpose of this website is to provide an easy and fun way to bring up different dimensions of health with your child. The foundations of lifelong health are built in early childhood so it is important to ensure proper education not only within schools, but also at home. Health promotion introduced in early childhood and throughout adolescence can help reduce risk of disease and promote overall wellness.
