FOCUS ON PLAY
During the ages of 4-6, it is important to introduce physical activity to children in a way that is unstructured and focuses on play. Physical activity can boost self-esteem, build a healthy body, improve stress management, and promote learning in a young child. Make sure your child understands some of these benefits and how good moving is for your body! Now is a good age to focus on games that involve movement and balance to enhance their motor skills. As they grow comfortable with running and jumping, introduce equipment that can further progress their skill. You can do this by adding balls to catch or a jump rope to jump with. This is a great time to have your child try out their balance on a bike, with or without training wheels. Music is a good way to inspire fun movement by encouraging dancing and moving to a rhythm. Along with promoting play, make sure to try and limit screen time to no more than 2 hours a day. Encourage more outside play that gets the body moving!

OBSTACLE COURSE
food is fuel
When talking about nutrition, the focus should be on using food for fuel. Explain that a body is similar to a car, when a car runs out of gas it can no longer drive just like when we haven't eaten a good meal we don't have as much energy to play. Food doesn't just give you energy to run and play, it also gives your brain energy to think and learn. This is why breakfast is so important, especially at the beginning of a long day at school where your child is learning and playing all day. Don't forget to include the importance of water when talking about food and nutrition. Kids should drink one glass of water for the number of years old they are, other sources of water come from the foods they eat. At this age, starting to introduce different food groups will get your child thinking about what they are putting in their bodies and that not all foods serve the same purpose.

ANATOMY INTRO
Being able to recognize major body parts is an important skill to learn during this age period. This includes connecting a finger, to a hand, to the arm and toes to a foot, and then a leg. Introducing activities such as drawing out a human body can help in understanding basic anatomy. It is also a great age to start introducing the idea of organs and systems that are happening inside the body. Some fun games can be introduced that will help your child identify body parts on paper and on themselves. Spatial awareness can also start to be addressed with games that will not only teach children about the body and its parts but also the relation to the outside world as well.

Taking care of self
Proper hygiene is key for this age group. This includes washing hands before eating, bathing regularly, wearing clean clothes evert day, and brushing hair and teeth. Let them know that proper hygiene is how to start every new day fresh! Another part of self-care and gaining independence is learning the differences in ways to dress with different times of the year or weather of the day. Preventing the spread of germs from child to child or child to adult is important in keeping your child healthy. Some easy steps children can learn to do this is covering a cough or a sneeze and making sure to wash their hands right after.
